Head judo coach at Dominion Academy. Former Peruvian senior national champion, seven years coaching, and winner of the -73 kg division at the 2026 Panamerican Judo Tour.

Jhonatan Gutierrez reached the top of Peruvian judo, winning the senior national championship and representing Peru at international events across the Americas.
He competed for Peru at the 2014 Pan American Championships at -60 kg, then moved up to -66 kg for the Lima Pan American Opens in 2016 and 2017. Along the way he also medaled in kata, the formal pairs demonstration of judo technique, winning bronze for Peru in Nage-no-Kata at the 2013 Bolivarian Games.
That combination is a strong fit for teaching kids. Kata is about precision: every grip, step, and angle done exactly right. Competition is about doing it under pressure. Students benefit from both: correct repetitions until a technique is clean, then live practice to prove it works.
His go-to throw is ippon seoi nage, the one-arm shoulder throw. It's a technique that suits smaller athletes as well as big ones, which is part of why he teaches it early.
He's still competing at a high level. In May 2026 he won the -73 kg division at the Panamerican Judo Tour in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The techniques he teaches your child are the same ones he's using against international opponents right now.
Jhonatan holds the rank of shodan, a first-degree black belt, and has been coaching judo for seven years.

He's a USA Judo member, has completed U.S. Center for SafeSport training, and has passed a background check, like every Dominion coach. You can see his international record on his International Judo Federation profile.
